Different Types of Aligners. One Personalised Treatment Plan.

Clear aligners offer a discreet way to move teeth using a planned series of custom-made trays. Depending on your orthodontic needs, treatment complexity and goals, different aligner systems may be considered.

INTRODUCTION

What Are Clear Aligners?

Clear aligners are removable, transparent orthodontic trays designed to gradually guide teeth towards their planned positions. Unlike conventional fixed braces, aligners can be removed for eating, brushing and flossing. The treatment involves wearing a sequence of aligners, with each stage designed to make controlled changes in tooth position.
ALIGNER OPTIONS

Choosing the Right Aligner System

Different aligner systems may be considered depending on your orthodontic requirements, treatment complexity and planned tooth movements.
01
ALIGNER SYSTEM

Indian Clear Aligners

Indian aligner systems can be considered for selected orthodontic cases depending on the complexity of tooth movement required.

They are generally planned as a series of trays, with the number of trays varying according to individual treatment requirements.

May be considered for

  • Mild crowding
  • Limited spacing
  • Selected tooth rotations
  • Certain alignment concerns
  • Other cases suitable for removable aligner treatment
Simpler cases may involve approximately 14–20 trays, while more involved cases may require around 20–32 trays.

Which Type of Aligner Is Right for You?

There isn’t one aligner system that is suitable for every patient.
The choice depends on factors such as:
01

Degree of Crowding

The amount of space deficiency can influence the complexity of treatment.

02

Tooth Rotation

The extent and position of rotated teeth can affect aligner suitability.

03

Bite Relationship

Conditions such as deep bite, open bite and scissor bite may require more detailed treatment planning.

04

Space Requirements

Spacing, crowding and the need to create or manage space can influence the treatment approach.

05

Extraction Requirements

Some complex cases may involve extraction and require a more comprehensive orthodontic plan.

CASE COMPLEXITY

Aligner Treatment for Different Cases

The suitability of aligner treatment depends on the complexity of tooth movement and your individual orthodontic requirements.
01 MILD

Mild Alignment Concerns

For selected mild cases, aligners may involve a relatively shorter series of trays.

Examples may include
  • Mild crowding
  • Small spaces between teeth
  • Limited tooth rotations
02 MODERATE

Moderate Orthodontic Concerns

Some patients require a longer sequence of aligners to address more involved tooth movements.

These cases may include
  • Greater crowding
  • More pronounced tooth rotations
  • Open bite
  • Scissor bite
  • More complex alignment requirements
The PDF places these types of cases within a higher tray-count range than simpler cases.
03 COMPLEX

Complex Orthodontic Cases

More complex cases may require comprehensive orthodontic planning and additional treatment considerations.

These may include
  • Significant crowding
  • Deep bite
  • Extensive tooth rotations
  • Extraction cases

Not every complex case is automatically suitable for aligners. Suitability needs to be determined through an orthodontic assessment.

PROCESS

How Does Aligner Treatment Work?

01

Records & Assessment

Your orthodontic records are collected. These may include clinical photographs, X-rays, intraoral scans and impressions, where required, to help develop your individual treatment plan.

02

Digital Treatment Planning

Your records and treatment requirements are used to create an individual 3D treatment plan. The Invisalign workflow may include 3D treatment planning and ClinCheck software.

03

Custom Aligners

Once your treatment plan is established, a series of custom-made aligners is produced using advanced 3D printing technology.

04

Begin Wearing Your Aligners

You receive your aligners and begin following the prescribed wear schedule. Aligners are generally recommended to be worn for approximately 20–22 hours per day.

05

Regular Reviews

Your progress is monitored through scheduled orthodontic appointments, with further stages of aligners provided according to your treatment plan. Reviews may be scheduled approximately every 6–8 weeks.

06

Retention

After active tooth movement is complete, retainers are used to help maintain your teeth in their new positions and support your long-term treatment result.

APPLIANCE SELECTION FACTORS

Are Aligners Right for Everyone?

Clear aligners can be an effective option for many orthodontic concerns, but they are not automatically suitable for every patient or every case.
